Adult Education Several adult classes are held on Sunday mornings:
At 9:45 A.M.
Adult Bible
Class –
This class will be exploring biblical images of Jesus. Who is Jesus? What
did he do? How can we live like him? The books studied will be Hebrews, The
Gospels, and the book of James. This class meets at 9:45 a.m. in Room 26.
At 9:45 & 11:00 A.M.
Faith Matters
– This class, taught by Rev. Cheryl Folk, will be studying James Moore’s
book, Moments That Take Your Breath Away. Every now and then, and
more often that we realize, God breaks into the routine and gives us one of
those awesome moments, so powerful, so amazing, so beautiful, that time
seems to stand still. This study will be offered at both 9:45 and 11:00
a.m. and meets in the Rising House Dining Room.
AT 11:00 A.M.
Ark Builders
– This class meets at 11:00 a.m. in Room 26. Contemporary faith-based
topics and books are selected according to the interests of the group. This
class enjoys lively discussion and class interaction
WEDNESDAYS
Mid-Week Bible
Study –
This adult bible study meets each Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (note
time change) at Crossroads. The study will be facilitated by one of our
pastors and examines the preaching text for the coming Sunday. The format
welcomes questions and shared discussion. All adults are invited to join in
this experience. For questions, ask Rev. Brown, 653-3330. The study begins
Wednesday, September 10, in the Conference Room.
Young Spirits
– This group of 20-40 year olds meet for bible discussions and social
gatherings on Thursday evenings from September to May. The bible study, led
by Larry or Sam, focuses on the preaching text for the week and the group
discusses how the passage relates to their lives and the world around them.
Socially, on the last Thursday of the month, they meet for dinner, bowling,
cookouts, bonfires, game nights, and whatever else sounds fun for the
group. If you would like more information regarding the Young Spirits,
contact the church. Young Spirits begins on Thursday, September 11 at 6:30
p.m. in the Spirit Café. Short-term weekday classes are offered periodically as well as the
DISCIPLE Bible Study program.
This program is not being offered this year.
Belonging Ministry Team This group meets throughout the year to “shepherd” our new members. The group’s focus is to help new members connect with one another and with God through involvement in various forms of ministry based on individual gifts and talents. Senior Adult Council This Council is an advocate for the needs of older adults. They sponsor a reminiscence program, “Life Review,” for persons 80 and older and mail birthday cards to these persons. The Senior Adult Council also creates resources for older adults and makes published material available to the congregation. These resources address the needs of older adults and assist in identifying the many services and programs available within the congregation and community. Wednesday Fellowship Dinners
Dinner is served every Wednesday evening from September through May by volunteers. This is a great time for the church family to fellowship together. Cross-Stitch Ministry Persons who enjoy cross-stitching are invited to share their talents by creating Christian symbols as well as gift items given on behalf of our church. Cokesbury Booktable Ministry Books are sold on Sunday mornings in the parlor during Fellowship Hour. We also special order books at your request. Church Library
The library is open on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. During the week, the library is locked, but can be accessed by any member of the staff. Books are loaned for four weeks, CDs for three weeks and videos for one week.
Knitting for a better world
On
Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Rising House, you can join other knitters in
a new ministry that provides hope to people around the world. You can knit
items for needy children: sweaters, preemie clothing, infant burial
buntings, or teddy bear outfits. You can help adults by knitting 7" x 9"
sections that are later joined together to make blankets for homeless or
battered women’s shelters. You can knit bandages that will be sent to India
for victims of leprosy, or sent to South Africa for AIDS victims. The
opportunities to help others are abundant.
Every Wednesday
morning knitters will come together to knit for others and enjoy fellowship
with one another. Childcare can also be provided if requested by the
previous Sunday. Bring size 7 needles and a skein of worsted yarn. If you
love to knit but cannot attend on Wednesdays, contact Pam George for the
patterns. (Crochet patterns are also available.) You can still be a part of
this important ministry right from your home. If you want to learn to knit,
or to teach someone to knit, contact Pam George, 740-653-3330.
