Rev. Dr. Brian Jones, Senior Pastor

Rev. Dr. Brian Jones has been ordained in the United Methodist Church since 1988. He has served several churches within the West Ohio Conference including churches in Lima, Marietta, Toledo, Fostoria and Columbus. Before moving to Lancaster, he previously served as an Assoc. Minister at Trinity United Methodist Church in the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff/Upper Arlington area of Columbus. Dr. Jones was born in Dayton Ohio, and grew up outside of Troy, Ohio. He is a proud graduate of Asbury College (now Asbury University) and Asbury Seminary. He holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Biblical Preaching. He has had several articles published in both Good News magazine, as well as Fellowship Magazine (renewal magazine for the Church of Canada).

Dr. Jones is an avid Reds and Bengals fan, as well as OSU Football. For his family, coming from Kentucky, and having lived there for seven years, a love for UK basketball runs deep, as well. In his spare time, he practices and teaches several disciplines of Martial Arts, something he has pursued from a young age. Most importantly Dr. Jones has been married to his wife Kelly for 25 years. They have three children, Benjamin (23) Rachel (21) and Rebekah (17) and one grandchild, Sean (almost 3).

Cheryl Foulk, Visitation Minister

Cheryl is a native of the foothills of North Carolina and graduated from Duke University in 1973 with a B.A. in Sociology. She received her Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and met her husband Ben there. Since that time, they have served a variety of churches in the West Ohio Conference as ordained Elders. Ministering in separate parishes, the Foulks have been appointed to churches in Cincinnati, the Lima area, Zanesville , and Baltimore. Ben has additionally served in Lithopolis, Marne, and Canal Winchester.

Cheryl came to First UMC in 2006.  The Foulks have two daughters: Azure (Joe) Koehler, who reside in Rushville, and Esther (Blake) Boulton, who live in Columbus. The Foulks enjoy music, movies, reading, travel, the Cincinnati Reds, and spending time with their five grandchildren.

A favorite Scripture is 1 John 4:11:Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.

John Coen, Creative Ministries & Crossroads Facility Director

John is a graduate of Ohio University where he studied video production and film. His internship with Stan Winston enabled him to work on special effects for Edward Scissorhands and Predator II. Following a short stint as a videographer and film transfer technician, John became Youth Director at First Church. Since joining the staff in 1992, he has developed the Virtuous Reality puppet ministry, "Believe" magic ministry and has become the Director of Creative Outreach Ministries, working with clowns, puppets, magic, video production, visual arts, parades and marketing. He has taught workshops on puppetry and clowning at national and international conferences. In his spare time he sings with "Grace 4 Faith" trio. www.grace4faith.com. Dan Kemp, Director of Discipleship

Dan was born and raised in Lancaster and brought up in the Catholic faith where he studied and received certification in Christian education through the Catholic Diocese of Columbus. Dan graduated from Lancaster High School and did his under graduate studies at Ohio University-Lancaster in Political Science and received certification in
Law Enforcement, and EMT-Basic trainings from Eastland Police Academy and Columbus State.

Dan was previously employed as Director of Youth Ministries and Activities for St. Mark where he was involved with youth ministry and Christian education for over twenty years. He is also involved with the special needs population where he was most recently employed with the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities as the Lead Trainer for Project SEARCH, a program for young adult students transitioning from high school to the workforce located at Fairfield Medical Center. As Dan joins our team here at First church he will continue to work as a provider with his friend Kevin, a gentleman with special needs. Dan encourages you to reach out to him with any questions or ideas you may have to help build and improve our programs here at First church as we focus on making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and world.

Dan loves spending time with his wife Nicole and their two daughters, Madison & Miley. He enjoys music, sports, and riding his motorcycle.

Joseph Palmer, Youth Director

Joseph joined the church staff in April of 2014. Even though he is relatively new to the staff, he is not new to the Church. His parents, Shawn and Ann Palmer, and grandparents, Bill & Betty Whitmore and Carl and Barb Palmer, raised him in our church since he was an infant. He became a member of the church in seventh grade, with one of the largest confirmation class in our church’s history, and was very active in youth ministries throughout his Junior and Senior High years. After graduating from Lancaster High School in 2005, he attended Kenyon College for two years before transferring and graduating from The Ohio State University in 2010. After graduation he discovered his passion for education by volunteering with the confirmation classes at FUMC. He recently finished his second degree in Middle Childhood Education from Ashland University in May of 2015.

Clarence McCoy, Director of Worship Arts

Clarence M. McCoy serves as Director of Worship Arts at First United Methodist Church, where he has been on staff since 1997. Clarence provides leadership and coordination for all music, worship, and worship arts programs and serves as one of the members of the worship planning team.

Clarence was born in Chillicothe, and was raised in Fairfield County. After studying music education and trumpet performance at the University of Toledo and Ohio University, he returned to Fairfield County, and has lived in Lancaster since. Clarence's experience includes public school instrumental music instruction in several different school systems, performing as an instrumentalist and a singer (including 22 years with the Lancaster Chorale), music retail sales and management, formerly directing the Celebration Singers of Lancaster and the Lancaster-Fairfield Youth Choir, and church music positions at four other churches before coming to FUMC. Clarence is the founding director of the Lancaster Community Chorus, and assists with the choirs at Lancaster High School, directing the Men’s Ensemble.

Clarence and his wife, Sandy, who is Director of Vocal Music at Lancaster High School, enjoy spending time with their very spoiled Golden Retriever, Louie.

Michael Snyder, Organist

Michael Snyder currently works as the Choral Director at Finland Middle School in the Southwest City Schools. Previously he has worked as Assistant Choral Director at Hilliard Darby High School and Choral Director at Heritage Middle School, and Director of Choral Activities at Whitehall-Yearling High School prior to that. He has held Director of Music and Organist positions at Zion Lutheran Church in Wooster, David Lutheran Church in Canal Winchester, and Bexley United Methodist Church. Michael studied Piano Performance at Kent State University, received a Bachelor in Music - Organ Performance degree from the University of Akron, received his education certificate from The Ohio State University, and has completed work toward a Master of Music Education Degree at VanderCook College of Music. He lives in Canal Winchester with his wife, Angela, and their daughter, Bailey.

Barb is a recent member to First UMC, joining in the fall of 2016. She began volunteering as a receptionist sub in 2017 and was excited to join the staff as the morning receptionist on March 1, 2018. She is a Fairfield County native and graduate of Fairfield Union. She has over 30 years of office and administrative experience.

Barb has two grown sons, Aaron and Molly Hunt who live in The Netherlands, and Nathan and Ashlee Hunt who live in Lewis Center. Nathan and Ashlee were blessed last October on the birth of their son, Peyton Andrew. Her favorite past times are reading, sewing, gardening, and babysitting her grandson.

Every year someone gifts a daily Prayers & Blessings calendar for the
receptionist desk. One recent blessing: “May the Lord abundantly bless your hopes and dreams, bring blessings out of your trials and challenges, and bless others through your heart and hands” has become one of her favorites.

Sandy Roberts, Pastoral Administrator Assistant

Sandy joined First Church through Confirmation as a Youth in 1960 and joined the church staff in 1985 as Membership Secretary. Later, she became the Administrative Secretary and Office Manager. In May of 2010, Sandy was given the title of Senior Administrator. As of December 2014, Sandy’s new title is Pastoral Administrative Assistant. Sandy was certified as a Professional United Methodist Church Secretary through the organization PAUMCS in Atlanta, GA, in December 1993 by the General Council on Finance and Administration of the United Methodist Church. She has attended many of their Annual Conferences in several different states.

Sandy is married to Bob, and they have 2 daughters, Heather Roberts and Aimee (Patrick) Munyon. Heather has 2 children, Hannah and Hayden Tatman. Aimee has 2 daughters, Azlyn and Cambria. Sandy enjoys bowling, gardening, reading, traveling, and her grandchildren. Her favorite scripture is I Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude....it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Deb Silvia joined the First UMC staff as the part-time Treasurer in May, 2010. Now she is our full-time Business Administrator supporting the ministries of the Trustees (property), Staff Parish Relations Committee (human resources), the Finance Committee, the Permanent Endowment Committee and the Scholarship Committee.

She has a bachelors degree in Business Administration from Franklin University and has experience working in private, public and non-profit sectors. She is a member of Shalom United Methodist Church in Carroll where she served as the Finance Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and Vacation Bible School Coordinator.

Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV),  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jill Warner, Financial Secretary

Jill has been a member of First UMC since 1993, when she and her family moved to Lancaster. In 2000 she joined the staff at First UMC as the Children's Coordinator, she held this position for several years then after a short reprieve, came back on staff as the Financial Secretary in 2004. Jill graduated from Heidelberg College with a degree in Business Administration and has spent time working in management and banking before she moved to Lancaster.

When Jill is not working in the business office she enjoys volunteering with the Children's Sing & Praise, choir and VBS. She is also an avid bicycle rider, loves to read and spend time with her family. Jill is married to her fun-loving husband, Tim, and they have 3 grown children, David, Stephanie & Garrett & 2 grandchildren, Paige & Landon.

One of Jill's favorite Bibles passages is Matthew 11:28-30. Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Dustin Roberts, Maintenance Technician

Dustin joined the FUMC team full-time in August 2014 as our Maintenance Technician providing custodial  and light maintenance care for our facilities.  His experiences before coming to us include custodian at Victory Hill Church, maintenance and sales at Lancaster Equipment Rental and construction and repair with Edwards Pools.

Dustin and his wife Marcee have two daughters, Emilee and Evelyn.  They attend Victory Hill Church and faithfully serve in the children's ministry.

He loves spending time with his family, reading, hiking, and playing wherever they are. Dustin also loves studying, applying and sharing "God's Awesomeness".

Dustin's favorite scripture is And he said to the human race, “The fear of the Lord-that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.” (Job 28:28 NIV).
